Sal (Surya) Lamsal



Mr. Sal (Surya) Lamsal was born and raised in Nepal. He completed his High School in Shivanagar, Chitwan, graduated I.Sc. and B.Sc. from Amrit Science College (ASCOL) and B.E. (Civil Engineering) from Pulchowk Campus.

He entered in the United States of America (USA) in 1996 as a student and graduated from City University of New York (CUNY) in 1998 with a degree of Masters in Structural Engineering. He is currently pursuing PhD in Urban Infrastructure Systems focusing in Energy Management from New York University.

Mr. Lamsal is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York and other five US States. He has been working with the New York State owned energy company, New York Power Authority, for about 12 years managing generation facilities up to the scale of 6000 MW – mostly hydropower – and 1400 circuit miles of high voltage transmission grid across the State.

His past experience includes structural design and construction management of high-rise buildings in New York City, designing stadiums and auditoriums and cable structures around the world, development of solar products – and engineering assessment and design of residential, industrial and commercial facilities.

Mr. Lamsal is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Immediate past executive member of American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr) and Non-Resident Nepali Association of USA. He is currently serving as a Co-Convener of USA for Skill Training Center Subcommittee of Non-Resident Nepali Association, International Coordination Council (NRNA-ICC) and the First Vice President of Queens Buddha Lions Club. His overall interests are in social services and implementation of public private partnership for infrastructure development in Nepal.

Mr. Lamsal is living in New York City with his wife and a 5 years old son.
